Find a clue
How might Pawi feel? Look for a reason in the words and illustrations.
LEARNING BEYOND SCHOOL
CEC combines original stories and activity resources with carefully selected books. Questions from reading lead into observation, investigation, creative work and expression in English.

A CEC ORIGINAL STORY
A Story from the Philippine Islands
By Tiffany Soohye Shin
An English story set in the Philippine seas. Pawi’s journey opens questions about courage, home and caring for the natural world.
Children can explore clues in the story, discuss how Pawi feels, and use light and dark to create their own sea-inspired artwork.
Student and teacher resources are separate from the storybook. Check the retailer for current pricing and availability.

How might Pawi feel? Look for a reason in the words and illustrations.
Can the sea be beautiful and frightening at the same time? Share interpretations and explain the evidence.
Use light and dark to express a scene’s mood, then explain your choices.

CEC DISCOVERY JOURNAL
Level 2 · Book 1
A student journal connecting Nature & Reading, STEM Lab and Art Studio. Learners draw and write observations, plan before building, then explain what they tried and changed.
Teachers select pages for the topic, English level and time available. The journal collects a learning process; completing every page is not a daily target.

FROM MATERIALS TO MEANING
This photograph shows an actual nature observation record from a CEC class. Alongside the new Discovery Journal, it illustrates our focus on children’s spoken ideas, records and creative work.
Teachers help children say an idea first, then record it through drawings, words or sentences. They observe questions, cooperation and willingness to try again, as well as finished writing and artwork.
